33 weeks

How far along:  33 weeks
How big is baby: Durian Fruit (According to wikipedia, a durian fruit is the "king of fruits," noted for its large size...it looks like a cantaloupe with spikes on it)
Maternity clothes:  A mixture..almost always for pants though
Sleep: Not great this week.  I haven't been able to go to sleep until late (most nights b/c of homework..) and then I'm having to get up early.  By mid afternoon, I am ready for a nap.  SO thankful for this 3 day weekend and getting some extra sleep/rest this morning.
Food cravings: chocolate, CFA
Symptoms: Just tired.  Some back pain, but not too much.
Movement: The same big movements as last week.  I've been feeling a foot or heel quite a bit and when I mess with it, it moves across my stomach : ) My stomach is getting uneven quite a bit too when she is moving around..it'll be lopsided
Gender:  Girl
What I’m looking forward to: Seeing her sweet little face this week on our next ultrasound.  Getting some clothes/blankets/etc washed and ready for her.
What I'm reading:  This week, I haven't had time to..I'm ready to start a new book though.  I'm deciding between Dr. Sear's Baby book and Ina May's guide to breastfeeding
What I miss:  Laying on my stomach
Best part of the week: Celebrating Sadie with two showers and getting most of her nursery put together!

Banana Pudding

Last week we had some family and friends over for dinner on Friday prior to the Baby Showers on Saturday and Sunday.  For dessert, I wanted to make something a little different and came across a banana pudding recipe on Pinterest.

Banana Pudding
from Cooking with Carrie

Ingredients (For our group, I ended tripling it, which was way too much..so we've had to eat from it all week..)1 box of vanilla wafers
4 to 5 bananas, sliced
2 cups milk
1 (3.9 ounce) box instant french vanilla pudding
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 (8 ounce) tub of whipped topping

Directions
1. First, don’t forget to set out your ingredients, especially the cream cheese, as it needs to be softened and the whipped topping if it needs to thaw.
2. In a bowl, combine the milk and pudding mix and blend well using an electric mixer.
3. Using another bowl, combine the cream cheese and condensed milk.
4. With the same electric mixer, blend together until smooth.
5. Add the pudding to the cream cheese mixture and stir until combined.
6.  Peel and slice the bananas and set aside.
7. You can use a large bowl, 9x13 pan, or small bowls for the banana pudding. I used plastic cups and then layered the remainder in a bigger container. Start with a layer of vanilla wafers, then the pudding mixture, then bananas.  Then more of the pudding mixture, vanilla wafers and a layer of whipped cream.  Continue with the pudding and bananas and pudding and wafers until you reach the top!

Sadie's room

Now keep in mind, there are a few little things that needed to be done, but overall, I feel that her room is together enough to share.  (I've spent a little too much time on ProjectNursery, so you're getting the run down on everything...)
Her colors are pink and grey.  I actually got the pink paint off the "oops" shelf in Lowe's while I was waiting for my samples to be mixed.  You know when they mix a paint and it isn't exactly what they wanted so it goes into the oops pile.  Well it is exactly what I wanted and I only had to pay $5 for a gallon.  Let's call it Sadie Pink.  I used Sherwin Williams Argos for the grey on the walls.
Cody refinished the wood floors in her room and we hung the Ikea Kristaller for a light fixture.   I had originally thought that I would repaint it as I had seen on pinterest, but liked it the way it was once we hung it.
After more thought than should have gone into it, we ended up getting a La-Z-Boy recliner instead of a glider.  We got the Coleman and had it made in Steel.  The crib is the Kendall crib from Pottery Barn Kids.  The Sadie letters on the wall are from Hobby Lobby.  The sherpa owl mobile is from PBkids.  My mom made the bedding and curtains..amazing right?!  We bought the fabric from Carousel Designs (which is so quick at sending their fabric!):  Bumper is Pink Geometric with pink dimpled minky and grey dimpled minky on the inside, the sheet is gray damask (there are several different sheets that she made in grey), the crib skirt is Pink Zig zag.  The curtains are white and gray striped.  The rug is from Lowe's
The ottoman is a DIY project that I will post about soon (with fabric also from Carousel Designs: white and gray zig zag)
This wall has her dresser that I just refinished,  the lamp is the one I recovered last year, the repurposed window from my aunt's house just with new paper to match,  a sweet Precious moments mama and a frame (both of which were a gift).
This last wall is her library.  I found this picture on Pinterest and followed their suggestions.    We bought 3 RIBBA picture ledges from Ikea.  The top shelf has the "S is for Sadie" print from Onto Baby, The one in the middle is guesses of Sadie's due date from a shower and the right one is the "You are my sunshine" print from Kari Machal.  Two of the frames are from Ikea.  The bottom two shelves have books.  On the ground there are two crates from Joanns that I painted with the "Sadie pink."  The one on the left has toys and the one on the right has books.

This is my happy place! I cannot wait until I have that sweet little girl in my arms when I am in her room.  Until then, I will just enjoy the room and feeling her kick : )

32 Weeks

How far along:  32 weeks
How big is baby: Squash
Maternity clothes:  A mixture..almost always for pants though
Sleep:  I've been sleeping fairly well, just readjusting to a school schedule.  It is hard to get up in the mornings!
Food cravings: chocolate, ice cream, cheese its, caffeine free diet coke
Symptoms: Fairly pain free week, just tired.  We've also had increased heat and humidity so I've had some slight swelling in my fingers and feet (drinking lots of water though to try to prevent too much of that)
Movement: Bigger movements than before.  When I first felt her move it would be little kicks, now its more of her body shifting.  I can also feel multiple parts of her body moving at once.
Gender:  Girl
What I’m looking forward to: Celebrating with showers this weekend and getting to hear her heartbeat on Monday!
What I'm reading:  Last week I forgot to add The Pregnancy Companion: A Faith-Filled Guide for Your Journey to Motherhood.  This book covers five weeks at a time and has not only what is going on with you and baby, but also gives you specific prayer requests and scripture to read over during those weeks.  Great book!
What I miss:  nothing
Best part of the week:  On my way to getting grad school knocked out, feeling her move!

A day of Spring Break + 31 weeks

This year Spring Break has not been a big trip, but rather time to have appointments, work on grad school and get things more ready for Sadie.  My yesterday was so productive!
A morning run/walk...at 31 weeks its honestly more like a walk/run..but I'm still trying : )

I spent a few hours at Panera studying.  I felt like I was back at Baylor...but I was so productive by just getting out of the house!
I picked up the chair for Sadie's nursery! : ) All of the big pieces are in there now...just need to get some things on the wall and then I'll share pics
Sadie and I spent the remainder of the afternoon enjoying the gorgeous day outside! My study materials keep getting moved farther away as she grows : )

31 weeks!
How far along:  31 weeks
How big is baby: Pineapple
Maternity clothes:  A mixture..almost always for pants though
Sleep:  I've been able to rest and get a lot of sleep this week!  Only waking up once a night is a huge help too!
Food cravings:chocolate and turkey hot dogs (haha, oh my!)
Symptoms: Blood sugars are getting under better control and back pain has been minimized this week since I haven't been on my feet as much
Movement: A lot! I think I just notice it more when I'm not as busy.  She's all over my belly...little girl likes to move : )
Gender:  Girl
What I’m looking forward to: Getting to celebrate with family and friends next weekend! Working more on finishing up the nursery!
What I'm reading:  I've read The Happiest Baby on the Block, So That's What They're For and Balancing Pregnancy with Pre-existing Diabetes.  I'm working on Babywise right now.  I think I'm getting a good idea of different ideas that are out there, so now I'll have a good bank of ideas and choices when she comes.  We'll just have to see what works best for us!
What I miss:  nothing
Best part of the week:  Getting the pieces in her nursery, meeting the pediatrician, touring the hospital, finishing up registration paperwork...we are getting ready!!

Counting Carbohydrates

I am an insulin dependent diabetic (which I'm sure you're saying..of course we know that if you've been a reader of my blog for any period of time).  I can eat whatever I want (probably shouldn't but do..), I just have to count my carbohydrates and give insulin accordingly.  I do not have to count sugars, calories or anything else of the sort.  As a pregnant diabetic, I have cracked down on knowing the exact amount of carbohydrates (which I should have been doing the entire time...) and have discovered that most restaurant's websites have it on there.  My favorites allow you to add in everything you are eating to make a full meal of all nutrition facts (aka, I don't have to add on my own).  Be prepared to be shocked if you do this though..some of the food you eat has an insane amount of carbohydrates..

Chick-fil-a has the meal calculator

Panera has the nutrition calculator

McAlister's has the nutrition calculator

I am sure there are many other restaurants that have these as well, but these are the ones I have come across.

A lot of recipe websites such as AllRecipes have the nutrition facts on the bottom of the recipe page or have another location to calculate them.

Banana CC Muffins: A new recipe

I love breakfast and I love having time to make breakfast.  Spring break makes this easier (and has given me time to run a lot of errands and work on some grad school too!).  I came across this recipe on pinterest and decided to try it.
Banana CC muffins
from Fit and Healthy with Debbie
Ingredients:
2.5 cups old fashioned oats

1 cup plain low fat greek yogurt

2 eggs

1/2 cup honey

2 tsp baking powder

1 tsp baking soda

2 TBSP ground flax seed

1 tsp vanilla

2 ripe bananas

*I also added in 1/2 c. mini cc

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spray tin with non-stick cooking spray or line 12 muffin tins with silicone or foil liners.
2. Place the oats in the food processor and pulse for about 10 seconds.  Add remaining ingredients to the food processor.

3. Process until everything is mixed together and oats are smooth. (Then add the chocolate chips/walnuts if you so desire)
4. Divide batter among cupcake liners, and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean.
*Let them cool before eating, otherwise they will stick to the paper (no flour or oil in them) or put them in the pan vs. in paper.

Each muffin is approximately 30 g of carbohydrates.

Dresser Update

Our parents have been beyond generous as we have prepared for Miss Sadie's arrival.  Cody's parents gave us the dresser that had been in his bedroom growing up to use for her room.  It was a perfect dresser for a boys room.
I decided to make a few changes to it so that it would be ready for a little girl.  I used a few different blogs/pins to figure out exactly how to do this.
1. I wore a mask, so no worries

 2. With gloves on my hands (there are crazy skin warnings on this stuff), I used a degreaser (from Lowe's) to clean the dresser well, removed the drawers from the chest and handles from the drawers.

3. Using Zinsser cover stain primer that we found at Lowe's and a cabinet brush, I covered the entire thing.  It took me three coats, but saved me the labor and clean up of sanding.

4. The dresser needed to dry before I could paint it, so I went shopping for a few hours : )
5. I wanted the dresser to be glossy and had read that latex enamel was the best for furniture, so we went with Valspar gloss white latex enamel.  I used another cabinet roller to apply this and it took just two layers.
 6.  I also primed and painted two of these wooden decorative pieces from Hobby Lobby (that we attached with Liquid Nails) as well as the 4 feet (from Home Depot..you need to buy the metal plates that attach to the furniture which are right by the feet in the store) as I went along.

7.  I picked up some new cabinet pulls when I was at Home Depot also to give it another little face lift.
 8.  The final product.  I was so pleased with the way it turned out!  It will be Sadie's dresser and changing table.

30 weeks

Some weeks as a pregnant diabetic are harder than others and this just happens to be one.  I knew that there would be a point where I needed a lot more insulin than previously and my well regulated blood sugars would go crazy.  Unfortunately for me, that was this week.  I had a day when I could not get my blood sugars down, which was very stressful.  Fortunately, after a small breakdown, I was able to get ahold of my doctors and make some changes that brought my blood sugars back to normal.
How far along:  30 weeks
How big is baby: cucumber, 3 lbs 8oz and 15 inches!
Maternity clothes:  A mixture..almost always for pants though
Sleep:  Not a lot.  I am exhausted.   I wake up a few times a night one of the times is consistently 4:30.  Hooray for Spring Break next week! I am planning on getting some rest.
Food cravings: Sweets still and Freebird's Nachos after seeing Emily's post yesterday
Food aversions:  None really
Symptoms: Back pain, heartburn and high blood sugars.  Bath time is my favorite because its the time in the day my back does not hurt at all.
Movement: Little girl is moving quite a bit.   I found out that she is head down, so I am assuming most of the movement that I see is her hiney and her feet : )
Gender:  Girl
What I’m looking forward to: Finally having time to put the pieces together for her nursery (I have a vision of where I want everything)! Pics to come soon : )
What I miss:  nothing
Best part of the week:  Seeing her sweet little face!!  Celebrating her with two showers (the one in Longview and one at school for all the new mommas today).
